Our Work
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers
How Forward Cadence helped Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers clarify its messaging, map its audiences and tie its story to a new 2026-2030 strategic plan.
Overview
Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers has mobilized volunteers to care for the valley's public lands since 1995, working alongside land managers as trusted conservation experts. With a new 2026–2030 strategic plan in place, they were ready for messaging to match. Forward Cadence partnered with RFOV to connect how they talk about their work to where the organization is headed.
The Challenge
Many people know RFOV through a day on the trail with a crew of volunteers. Behind that day is deep technical expertise and long partnerships with the land managers who care for these lands. RFOV wanted every audience to see the whole picture, from first-time volunteers to donors and agency partners. That meant plain language each group could connect with, tied to the priorities in their new strategic plan.
Our Approach
01Clarifying the message
Assess
- Reviewed the website, talking points, brand guide, impact reports and peer organizations
- Summarized communications strengths and three priority opportunities
Build
- Designed the workshop agenda and staff pre-work
- Led a two-hour workshop to map audiences and define what each should know, feel and do
- Clarified RFOV's core promise and refined their strategic pillars
Equip
- Delivered workshop insights and recommendations
- Drafted initial message concepts and themes for the team to build on
What We Made Possible
RFOV now has a clear, accessible way to talk about their work. Each audience has a pathway tied to the 2026–2030 strategic pillars, the language is plain enough for anyone to follow, and the expertise and partnerships behind every volunteer project come through.
- Audiences, mapped
- Clear priorities for who RFOV speaks to and what each group should know, feel and do.
- A defined core promise
- One clear statement of what RFOV offers and why it matters.
- Plain language
- Messaging that welcomes newcomers and still reflects deep conservation expertise.
- Messages tied to strategy
- Themes that connect directly to the 2026–2030 strategic pillars.
